Graduates
Every year, Cathy-Lea graduates are accepted into full-time performing arts courses. We currently have graduates training at the Australian Ballet School, the Victorian College of the Arts, the Ministry of Dance, Melbourne City Ballet, Patrick Studios Australia, Kelly Aykers Studios, Spectrum Dance, Transit Dance and Collarts University. Several of our graduates also pursue careers in performing arts education with some owning their own studios and working in schools.
Monique Johnson
Monique commenced training with Cathy-Lea at the age of 6. She was a member of our Elite Training Program and performed in troupes at eisteddfods and public events.
Monique achieved top Honours in all her Ballet and Jazz exams, receiving the Coral Brown award for the top result in the state for Cecchetti Ballet in grade 4 and completing her Intermediate and Advanced 1 exams with scores in the 90's . She also completed her Southern Federation of Dance Jazz level 10 with top Honours. She was selected to perform at the SFD “Dance Fusion” syllabus launch and was also a Cecchetti scholar. Monique studied VCE Dance at Cathy-Lea and was selected to dance her VCE solo at VCE Dance "Top Acts" Show. Monique also played the role of Mrs Potts in the Cathy-Lea musical production of “Beauty and the Beast.” Monique was a highly awarded soloist at eisteddfods. In her last year of competing, she won the Open Age Jazz championship, the Open Jazz solo section, the Open National section and placed second in the Open Ballet section at SFD comps. At the Traralgon Dance Eisteddfod that year she placed 1st for open jazz solo, national solo and jazz improvisation. She placed 2nd for open ballet solo, jazz championship and ballet championship sections. Monique won a two-year scholarship for full-time Diploma of Dance and Performance with the Dance Factory in 2011. In her first year she achieved Honours plus for all her Dance Factory Teaching Associate Exams including Classical, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Acrobatics, Singing and Acting and was also asked to be a part of the Dance Factory Agency. She completed her graduate year at Dance Factory in 2013. Monique has been touring professionally both nationally and internationally with the "Nickelodeon Live Dora the Explorer Show" for the past 3 years. |
