CONTEMPORARY This is a modern 'free' style of dance that is characterised by the use of a flexible, relaxed torso, contraction and release movements and the exploration of innovative movements of body parts. This style may have the grace a flow of classical ballet or be more quirky and angular.
HIP HOP This is an urban 'street' style of dance performed to current music. Hip hop can be relaxed, slow and lyrical or upbeat, hard-hitting and aggressive. Junior classes teach this style within an age-appropriate, up-to-date framework. Senior 'open' classes are taught by current industry professionals who are at the cutting edge of this current genre. COMMERCIAL JAZZ Commercial Jazz is an urban, sassy variation of Jazz as used in many current film clips.
LYRICAL Lyrical is an expressive, slow style of Jazz and is taught in our elite program.
ACROBATICS Tumbling has become a feature of theatrical dancing, so this class is for dancers looking to extend their skills in this direction. Students develop strength and flexibility as they learn to do cartwheels, walkovers and aerial feats.
SPECIAL DANCE For children and adults with mild-moderate intellectual and physical disabilities, the content of these classes is driven by the needs, interests and abilities of each group. Teachers are experienced in special education and work with assistants so 1-on-1 support can be offered where needed. All students have opportunities to participate in public performances.
