Cathy-Lea Howell (Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Pre-School Dance, Drama, Singing)
Cathy-Lea Howell (B.Ed (Sec)., M.Ed., L.C.B.A.-C.I.C.B., Cert IV in Teaching Cecchetti Classical Ballet, L.S.F.D., Affil. A.T.O.D., Cert III Fitness Instruction) has taught performing arts for 20 years in schools and private settings. She has a Masters degree in Education as well as internationally recognised teaching qualifications in Cecchetti Classical Ballet, Licentiate membership with the Southern Federation of Dance and Affiliate membership with the Australian Teachers’ of Dancing. She has also trained as a VicFit Fitness Leader and is currently updating these qualifications studying a Certificate III in Fitness. Her teaching experience includes twelve years in secondary schools, having been Head of Drama at Beaconhills College and Director of Drama at Yarra Valley Anglican School. Cathy has assessed VCE Drama and Theatre Studies for the Victorian Board of Studies and adjudicated at various eisteddfods and competitions. Cathy has directed in excess of fifty theatrical productions in the past twenty years, including plays, musicals and dance productions and has written many musical productions for children. Her dance training began at Rosslyn Charlesworth School of Dance and continued at Bartuccios, The Dance Factory and Danceworld 301. She has performed across Australia and overseas including in Disneyland and on Broadway. Cathy is trained in voice production and singing as well as flute, french horn, percussion and piano. She taught dance in various academies including Dawn Vernon, Rosslyn Charlesworth and Springvale Academy of Dance for eight years before opening her own school in Narre Warren in 1993. In 1999 the academy moved to the professionally equipped studios in Vesper Drive, Narre Warren. Cathy is the mother of 5 young children, one of whom has special needs, and she is passionate about providing opportunities for children of all abilities. |
