Elite Program

The Elite Program at Cathy-Lea Dance Works has been developed over 20 years to incorporate best international practice in Dance training. Students are trained in a range of Dance styles with an emphasis on developing strong technical skills and gaining extensive performance experience. Students from this stream regularly gain scholarships and places in full-time dance courses as well as professional performance work. The program aims to develop accomplished all-round performers with a high level of skill and broad experience in a range of dance styles and performance modes.

Students aged 5-8 are introduced to elite training in a 2 1/2 hour block that develops a fitness, flexibility, technique, and agility as well as technical training in Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Acrobatics.

From the age of 9, the program is divided across 2 nights; one with a Classical and Contemporary focus, and the other with a Theatrical (Jazz, Tap and Acrobatics) focus. Students in these classes are trained to achieve excellence in technique and performance with a view to potentially pursuing a career in dance or other performing arts. Teachers are highly trained and offer quality “safe dance” teaching. Conditioning is a key component of training at this level. In 2014 we will also offer Peak Performance Coaching program, which will help students to achieve optimum results through positive thinking processes, goal setting and sports psychology techniques.

Performance experience is a critical aspect of performing arts training, so our Elite students are offered a variety of performance experiences through the year including a range of competitive, non-competitive and community contexts.

Students can also elect additional classes in Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Singing and Drama.

Junior Elite students are training a minimum of 5 ½ hours per week with older students generally training 8-10 hours per week. For those seeking further extension or more competitive opportunities, private sessions are also available for individual training, conditioning, extension and solo work. Fees are packaged to make training at this level highly affordable.
